Nicole Murdoch has been promoted to Director from her position as a Senior Associate in the Intellectual Property team. As a qualified Lawyer, Electrical Engineer and Trade Marks Attorney, Nicole’s qualifications and practical experience has seen her involved in complex matters, especially in the fields of privacy law, information security and trade marks, designs, copyright and patents infringement.
She is a committee member of IPSANZ and is a proactive member of IPSANZ, AIIA, Engineers Australia, the Australian Computer Society, and IPTA. Nicole was a 2015 auDA Names Policy Panel Member and participates on the panel of pro bono lawyers for The Arts Law Centre.
Maurice Hannan has been promoted to Director from his role as a Special Counsel in the firm’s Business & Commercial Team.
He specialises in commercial, health and franchising law. With dual qualifications in law and pharmacy, Maurice has brought a unique combination of skills to bear on property and commercial business issues.
He is especially well placed to assist clients in the firm’s growing base of health industry legal services in addition to advising on sales and acquisition of businesses and property, negotiation and preparation of leases to lessors and lessees, franchising advice and contractual arrangements to master franchisors and franchisees, business structuring and restructuring and banking and finance.
Having owned and operated large pharmacies in Brisbane and Adelaide, Maurice is a strong advocate of the pharmacy and allied health industries. He was previously appointed by the Minister of Health to the Pharmacy Board of Queensland and held a Directorship with Green Spot Chemists for a number of years.
Sandy Zhang, who has been promoted to Associate, has made a major contribution to the firm’s Intellectual Property team as well as playing a significant role in establishing legal and business opportunities in China for the firm.
Sandy’s area of expertise is focused on intellectual property and commercial law and he recently featured as a Finalist in the Intellectual Property category of the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 awards. He was one of ten finalists nationwide in the Intellectual Property category, out of which only two (including Sandy) were from Queensland.
With a double degree in Business and Law and industry background in the IT field (including web programming and database design), and his ability to speak fluent Mandarin, Sandy has worked with Tony Bennett and Ken Philp (Founding Directors of Bennett & Philp Lawyers), on multi-million dollar intellectual property disputes, financial services disputes and commercial litigation and is actively involved in the development of a China practice at Bennett & Philp. He is also a committee member of IPSANZ.
